FIN-PLATE CONNECTION UNDER FIRE

Steel Connection

When fire loads affect a steel connection, it changes the steel prosperities to withstand convectional loads. A steel connection was modelled and designed to withstand relevant load combinations

BEAM-COLUMN-BEAM CONNECTION

Steel Connection

A complex configuration of beam-column-beam connection where bolts and welds where used. The connection is tested for stresses under ULS and SLS combinations. Few modifications were introduced to the initial design to match the safety criterium

PARAMETRIC DESIGN FOR SANDWICH PANELS

Steel Sandwich Panels under Vertical Loads

A full parametric design was accomplished. The study is to determine optimal material properties and dimensions for the sandwich model to withstand relatively minor loads. To satisfy an appropriate level of accuracy, orthotropic materials such as rockwool and cement were modelled with exact properties, beside the isotropic materials such as steel.

DUCTILE WOOD CONNECTION

Design of a wood connection under seismic loads

A detailed finite element analysis was carried to design a wood connection under short-term seismic loads. Since seismic loads are cyclic by nature, elasto-plastic behaviour was taken into account.

MULTI-STORY BUILDING

Modular Light-Frame

Modelling and analysis were carried on a modular light-frame construction in multi-story structures. This system worked by having a hyperstructure carry the weight of two superimposed light-frame substructures. Two reinforced concrete multi-story hyperstructures were created in accordance with the Eurocodes.

CHANNELS WITH EDGE-STIFFENED WEB HOLES

Cold-Formed Steel Channels

Simply supported tests for cold-formed steel channels. A sample with unreinforced web holes was tested. A nonlinear elastoplastic FE model was then developed and validated using experimental results. Using a validated FE model, we performed a parametric study to investigate the influence of various influence parameters on the shear capacity of such CFS profiles.

WELDING RESIDUAL STRESS ON TUBULAR JOINTS

Cold-Formed Steel Channels

Using finite element modelling, the model examines the specific welding effects on the strength and stiffness of CFST joints, validating and contrasting the findings in correlation with testing data. To facilitate the simulation of welding heat generation and residual stress, a prearranged temperature approach and a custom shell-solid modelling method are used.

BRACING SYSTEM UNDER CYCLIC LOADING

Composite Bracing System

A composite bracing system was modelled using finite element modelling. The goal is to test this model under cyclic loading. The model behaviour was studied through a full-scale assembly. A finite element parametric study was carried out to optimise the dimensions

A SPIRAL STAIRCASE ANALYSIS

Anisotropic Wooden Structure

A finite element model of a spiral wooden staircase was created. The anisotropic nature of wood was taken into account carefully in the model. The main loading combinations which were studied are the ultimate limit state and the serviceability limit state. Four possible designs were proposed in which safety and serviceably are achieved according to the Eurocode.
